Infant Feeding Therapy

Whether they are breastfed, bottle-fed, or a combination of both, babies can experience feeding challenges for a variety of reasons. This can result in painful nursing, poor weight gain, and unhappy babies.

If you or your baby experience any of the following challenges, a comprehensive feeding assessment may be beneficial:

  • Struggling to latch, maintain a latch, or is having trouble sucking from breast and/or bottle

  • Milk leaking from mouth during feeds

  • Difficulty gaining weight

  • Coughing or gagging during feeds

  • Feeds taking a very long time (over 30 minutes)

  • Excessive gassiness

  • Excessive spit-up

  • Breast and/or bottle refusal

  • Pain with latching - including cracked and/or bleeding nipples

  • Feelings unhappiness or dread about feeding sessions.

Starting Solids

Starting solid food with your little one can be an exciting, fun, (and messy) experience! But it can come with it’s own set of challenges. Is your child having trouble moving from breast or bottle feeding to eating solid foods? Are you unsure about trying purees or baby led weaning? Or maybe you’ve noticed concerning behaviours, such as gagging, vomiting, refusal, and/or texture sensitivities?

With specialized training in oral motor development and infant feeding, we will target oral motor issues such as jaw weakness, lip strength, or tongue lateralization that may be affecting your child's feeding.

We will work to ensure your child has the skills needed for safe, successful eating from the very first bite.

Feeding Therapy for Kids

If mealtimes have started to feel stressful or overwhelming, we’re here to help. Together, we’ll uncover what’s behind your child’s picky eating and create simple, practical strategies to make eating more enjoyable - and less stressful - for your family.

If you’re noticing any of the signs below, a feeding evaluation can help us understand what’s going on and how to best support your child:

  • Eating fewer than 20 foods consistently, often refusing certain foods or preferring specific brands.

  • Refusing whole textures or food groups

  • Extreme gagging/coughing/vomiting with certain foods

  • Long mealtimes (> 30 minutes)

  • Growth or nutrition concerns

  • Difficulty chewing, pocketing food, or choking

  • Behavioral concerns such as meltdowns or anxiety at mealtimes or sitting down to eat
